Back when I was in grade school, if you had to wear "glasses" then it probably was a tough day on the playground. Today, celebrities, fictional superheroes, and professional athletes are all wearing eyewear. It's become a fashion statement and considered cool for all ages!
However, when it comes to buying quality eyewear for children, parents often purchase eyewear for their child at a mega-chain store and the experience for both the child and the parents is not pleasant. The newly purchased eyewear is often thick, heavy, and too big for the child! I would like to inform all parents the importance of buying quality eyewear for their child, especially if it's their first pair of eyewear!

A child's first pair of eyewear, regardless of age, is really important! First of all, I recommend parents taking their child to a Pediatric Optometrist or Ophthalmologist. These Pediatric Eye Doctors specialize in refracting and diagnosing common eye disorders for children on a daily basis. The environment at these facilities are great for children! Usually, the 'Big Chair' in the Doctor's room and the other enormous oddly shape machinery can be frightening to children, especially since they have no idea what it does. These Doctors have the ability and the knowledge to make the experience less scary and more fun for the child and provide excellent care which will give the parents total peace of mind.
Next, take your child to an Optician that specializes in kids eyewear. This in my opinion, is the most important part! Keep in mind that not all Opticians specialize in kids eyewear. Most Opticians force fit the smallest adult frame for kids. Usually, the optician (sometimes even the parents) pick a frame that is two times too big on the child and the parents think it looks cute and they end up purchasing them. In fact, most parents purchase them anyways because the Optician didn't have anything else available. This is a huge mistake! Kids eyewear should fit properly, look great, and should be liked by both the child and the parents!

You be the Judge - Which Eyewear is Best Suitable for the Child?
The child in the picture on the right is wearing our custom made rimless eyewear. This type of eyewear is frameless and only weighs 3 grams (3 grams = 2 paperclips). Notice how the rimless frame fits properly on the child and looks great! Also, this pair of eyewear can grow with the child!
The photo of the child on the left is a good example of the frame being too large! Most of the time, parents choose a rimless frame because it's lightweight, highly durable, and can be made in any size or shape. Now, for those that aren't interested in purchasing a rimless then that's okay! If you decide to purchase a nonrimless frame then make sure to remember the following:
- The frame should fit properly on the child.
- The frame or the lenses should not stick out passed the width of the child's face.
- Lenses should not be popping out of the frame constantly.
- The frame should also be durable and light! If the frame is heavy, then the child will not want to wear them and the nightmare begins!!
